Middle Tennessee Spring Classic
May 7, 2005

Judge Suzy Way did an excellent job. The main reason we say this is because KWM's Warrior, grandson of our Venus, was selected Reserve Champion in the Junior Bucks.

We had a difficult time deciding who to take to the show. It took two trips to the Vet's for health certificate; we really had a difficult time deciding.

Since Venus's kids, Patience and Queenie, were only a month old, Venus did not need to make the trip. Ken told her, and she cried. (Venus loves travelling to the shows. The all-you-can-eat buffet while travelling may be her most favorite part.)

We had decided on Sabrina, a nearly three-month old beautiful full SA, but she died 3 days before the show.

The final decision was made on Friday, the 6th of May. We had long decided that KWM's Warrior, a two month old buck, son of Star Topaz would go (even though he would be up to a month younger than others in his class), and Topaz would have to go to provide Warrior his snacks. Since Topaz was going along for the ride, we decided to show her. Then we decided not to show her. Then we decided to go ahead and show her even though we knew Warrior had really pulled her down.

We looked at KWM's Fred, and we knew we wanted to show him as much as possible this year. Fred is a 63/64 Pureblood out of Queue and KWM's Hercules.

Then we decided, since they were just a little less that nine months old, we would take two our our embryo kids, Kattie's Glory and Kattie's Fortune.

Queue we though needed a little more time to recover from her last kidding; and Gidget was on the original registration, but had started bagging (due Jun 7th) so we scratched her.

We had purchased a Kiko doe, Holly, to use as a receipt; she didn't sync but we decided to keep her because of her size thinking her offspring should show well. Abby (Holly's female 50% doeling) was given a couple of looks, but at 2 months, she was not quite ready....maybe by Cullman.

We had decided to take Brandy, Hercules' mother, to her first show; but after having a ultrasound while getting her health certificate, we decided it would not be safe taking her.

In addition, we had sold Quincy ll; and he needed to be delivered to his new owner.

On Thursday we started giving baths. First up was Ulysses; his new owner, Sabrina Miller, was picking him up that afternoon, and we decided to give him a show bath/cut. Fred was next for bath - and broke the grooming stand. We improvised, and Fred was groomed along with Topaz and Brandy.

The last goat to be added to the show list was Kattie's Fortune, so we had to hurry to get to the Vets office for his health certificate.

Having attended the Cedar Classic last fall, we decided to drive up and spend the night, that would make if a short drive on Saturday morning. We arrived early, around 8. No one was there; but Darrell Bell, the new owner of Qunicy ll, arrived at about 8:15; we completed the transfer; showed off our show string; and Darrell was off - heading back to Dayton, TN.

Since we arrived early, we got pick of pens, and soon we were giving baths and fitting out goats. Some had never been bathed and didn't take too much to the water.

We finished fitting out everyone around 10:30 when most of the others were just getting started. We babied the goats, walked a couple to work on leading, and settled down for the show.

Percentage does came first. We should have brought Abby!

Full blood does followed. Glory went in and finished third, in the middle of the class.

Topaz was moved from a Senior Doe to compete against the yearling does. She didn't do well. I think we can blame Warrior for that. (Every time he cried from his pen, Topaz tried to make a mad dash to his aid.)

Finally the Bucks. Warrior could not wait to get in the ring. He pranced in, and took control of the event. He seemed to be picked early as first. He showed his stuff.

Two classes later Kattie's Fortune entered the ring. We thought he was a shoe-in for first place (since he was the only one in his class). Somehow, though, he managed to blow his lead and pranced out of the ring with a red ribbon.

Back in the ring for Grand Champion Junior Buck, the buck five months old plus, took first, but Warrior took Reserve. Suzy Way liked him.

Next into the ring was KWM's Fred. The judge love his head, width of barrel, and twist. Fred took a first. Returning to the ring for the Grand Champion Yearling Buck, Fred was a the bottom end of the group. Two of Glen Erwin's older bucks took Champion and Reserve. Fred was happy; he got to eat his ribbon.

Warrior returned to the ring, a Reserve Champion to compete for Best in Show. But the BIG bucks took all the honors. He liked getting his picture taken, but soon missed his mom and had to return to the pens.

A special thanks to Cecil and Cathy Thigpen, Derial and Donna Bivens for putting together the show and to Dennis Sparks, the 'voice' of the USBGA.
