USBGA - Double Show
Lexington, TN
May 19, 2007
|
It was a double show...
Two judges in the ring at once ..
Linda and Chris Fleming
|
When we first heard from Derial Bivens about this
show, we where interested. We were curious to seeing
how it would work. We had shown under Linda before
and looked foward to seeing her again and meeting
her husband.
|
We chose our team, keeping in mind that the following
week was the IBGA show in Cullman. We selected Venus,
the old warhorse, Kattie's Glory SA (with her 2
two-week old babies), CCF Mystery (with her 2 two-week
old babies), CCF Nixie SA, CCF Dancer, CCF Beverly,
and CCF Chase SA. With Health Certificates in hand,
we headed to Lexington, TN.
|
There is not good way to get from Fall River to
Lexington, TN. We had a check in time of 2:00 p.m.
We felt an arrival of 11 a.m. would allow lots of
time for grooming a bunch of goats that had not
been bathed or groomed since last fall. Several
were really in bad shape. Venus looked ready to
go into the ring until I ran my hand over her. She
was fifthy. Did I say that the directions were not
the best? We wandered aruond the Lexington area
for almost an hour. When we finally found someone
to ask directions, we were within sight of the entrance.

When we pulled in to the Beech Lake Pavilion,
we spotted a trailer from Georgia and stopped. We
found out that Derial was on the way. Marla Thoma
pointed us to a water spigot and I found electricity.
We were in business! We started giving baths, and
I started to groom my fifthy animals. Winter dirt
was removed, and winter hair trimed. Feet were trimmed;
and after a couple of hours, the animals were ready
for the show ring. Did I mention we were a big hit
with the locals? "Are these goats?" "What
are you doing?" "Is there a goat show
here?"
|
Derial arrived and set up a show area in the shade
of a large tree. Dennis set up his PA, and the fun
began. Due to some confusion and Donna's surgery,
what had been planned didn't happen, but what we
had, we had. The judges arrived and after a briefing
on how the show was to be conducted, the show began.

Basic Rules
1. This is a double-judged show - basically two
shows in one. There will be two judges in the
ring at the same time. Each class will be judged
twice and there will be two sets of awards.
2. Each judge will write his or her placings on
a card and present it to his ring steward.
3. After both judges have finished judging each
class, one judge will receive his card from the
ring steward and call out his placings, present
his awards and give his reasons.
4. The second judge will then receive his card
from the ring steward and call out his placings,
present his awards and give his reasons.
|
In the first class, CCF Beverly,
our little 0-3 month percentage doeling, entered
the ring. Oh, I forgot to say that she sang along
when the National Anthem was played - loud and off
tune.
|
|
We had planned on bringing CCF Mystery;
but when we went to load, she ran into the woodland
paddock and we gave up trying to capture her and
her two kids. We scratched her.
|
| |
CCF Dancer
took a fourth from Linda and third from Chris. |
CCF Nixie
SA took a last place with Chris and a Grand Champion
Kid under Linda.
|
|

|
CCF Elly
got a second place from both judges. |
|
|
|
Venus, the old
girl, had to sample some of the weeds around the
ring beforing going in. Linda had seen her before,
but Chris could not get over how massive she was.
Both gave her first and Reserve Champion Senior
Doe.
|
As the sun began to set, CCF Chase
SA, 0-3 month buckling, took a second from Linda
and a 3rd from Chris. Since we had to get home to
feed, we thanked the judges, loaded hodgepodge show
string onto the trailer, and headed to the barn.
|
|
Congratulations
to Jessica Thoma for her Reserve Grand Champion Buckling.
We hope Marla's broken hand is better. |
We would like to thank Derial for his persistence
in putting on the show, Chris and Linda Fleming,
judges we respect and whose opinions we value, and
the USBGA.
